I have had mild roids for about 15 years (external, I think), aggravated by childbirth, occasional itching, rarely any blood, but this morning I woke up with a painful, swollen ball that makes it difficult to walk and sit. I am worried it’s thrombosed, or at the very least a new prolapsed one — it’s different than anything I’ve had till now. I’m going to go look at it as soon as I get off the pc. My question is can hemorrhoids be aggravated by straining other than on the toilet? I’ve been doing a lot of heavy yardwork (removing a large wooden planter) and definitely overdoing it. Reason I’m wondering if that’s what aggravated it is that I rarely get constipated — I usually have the opposite problem. Also, what type of doctor performs hemorrhoid surgery? I have high blood pressure, which probably doesn’t help. I have lots more questions, but it’s late and my mind has gone blank. Please reply ASAP! I’m freaking out! Thanks. C.

REPLY

Hi,

Yes, straining can cause hemorrhoids, irrespective of how the straining comes about.

Also, if you have real runny poo, that can cause hemorrhoids, as the wiping tends to be alot more, which strains the tissue, as well as abrades it.

Always best to see your doctor for a diagnosis though, that way you know what is really going on.

My suggestions anyway.

All the best

Donald.
